The man wearing the beige jacket is Amneun, our contact at the village, he is also the main teacher at the school. He tells us what is needed.
I come bearing gifts from far away
Amneun and I (James) "customising" the contents of the bags to suit the differing needs of the children.
Dri bana! (thank you)
Handing out the goodies under a pic of King and Queen and to the right is a pic of the four main organisers Megan, Binish, Emily and Phoebe.
Thank You!
James hands-over a token amount of cash (2,000 Baht) while Amneun says thank you to everyone involved.
(This was not 'set-up', 'planned' or 'rehearsed'... I was certainly not expecting it and didn't know about it until the camera was 'rolling'. I think Amneun and I both had a little 'stage-fright').
Update, January 11, 2010.
Earlier in the week, we drove 3 hours north to the border town of Mae Sai to purchase blankets at the best price, today we delivered them to the very grateful people of the village.
Also completely unrehearsed and a total surprise, as we turned the camera on the villagers they held their new treasure (the blankets) aloft and grinned their gratitude
This Dara Ang (aka Pa Long) woman was so happy she was crying!
Last visit (Christmas day 2009) we gave a small cash donation, the guitars were purchased with those funds so that music can also be taught.
