Dine Out in Chiang Mai |
|
Having lived, and enjoyed dining out, in Chiang Mai for some time, we have discovered many great eateries. We are also frequently invited to "Grand Openings" and "Gala Functions". We can make recommendations, bookings and arrange transportation for you if you like, or if you prefer, we'd love to take you ourselves and join you... your treat, ok? (this will work-out cheaper in most cases, anyway).
This list is by no means comprehensive, it is a 'work in progress' and probably always will be...
Houn Soontaree
Enjoy a fabulous Thai dinner in a warm and relaxing atmosphere overlooking the Ping River and listen to Northern Style Folk-music by Thailands famous Soontaree Vechanont, the owner of the restaurant. And other artists including her daughter Lanna, also a star in her own right. The website is all in Thai but you can still see pictures and listen to Khun Soontaree croon "Sao Chiang Mai" (Chiang Mai Girl). Please note that Khun Soontaree sings every night except Sunday.
Baan Keaw Huan Kham
Baan Keaw Huan Kham, a delightful restaurant styled on traditional Thai architecture.
With an excellent Thai menu including many northern Thai dishes, live entertainment and great service. This is a great venue to wind down after your day, especially as it is just around the corner from The Rose of Suthep
Palaad Tawanron
Palaad is the name of the natural waterfall behind the restaurant.
Tawanron is the sunset in the evening when the sunset, the 'Tawanron', illuminates Chiang Mai city as the sun sets behind Doi Suthep behind you, setting the city on fire for your pleasure. It really is a fabulous view.
Oh! and the food's good too, a very extensive menu of Thai and western cuisine and a full bar with everything from local beer to cocktails and imported wine.
Baan Pran
A delightful secret, magical fairy garden with a waterfall feeding into a stream system that runs under the many raised platforms where diners enjoy fabulous authentic Thai cuisine, local and imported beverages, and live entertainment.
Old Chiang Mai Cultural Centre
Welcome to the Old Chiang Mai Cultural centre where you will enjoy a serene three-hour evening experience of the exotic Khantoke dinner, stage performances and hill tribes shows. A one evening sample of the culture of Lanna Thai, known as the region of elegance.
THE STEAKHOUSE by Le Crystal
For many years, Le Crystal Restaurant, on the banks of the the Ping River, has served the finest of French cuisine. On August 19 2008, this experienced team opened a sister Restaurant aimed at a more budget concious audience. The grand opening was, indeed a grand affair. We were among the privilaged few to be invited to the special occasion and subsequent visits have been no less impressive. With an extensive menu featuring both Thai and Western cuisine, the best meats and produce from wherever in the world they are found, a well stocked cellar with fine wines from around the world, a similarly varied choice of local and imported beers and excellent entertainment, The Steakhouse by Le Crystal is a special night out which belies it's humble name.
MAE PING RIVER CRUISE
Leave the city behind and relax awhile, carried along by the cool waters of the River Ping. Enjoy the ever-changing scene and the sumptous meal prepared by the chefs at The Riverside Bar and Restaurant, just before departure.
Xanadu at Furama
Xanadu offers the best rooftop view in Chiang Mai. Xanadu, on the 17th floor of Hillside 5, just off Huay Kaew Road, is a bar and restaurant with live music crooning in the background while you sit back and enjoy the 360% panoramic views of Doi Suthep. The best time to arrive is about an hour before dark, so you can thoroughly enjoy the sunset views while drinking down your beverage of choice. The menu is vast with barbecue, international cuisine, Thai, Chinese and Japanese fare.
